Title: A review on critical success factors for total productive maintenance and development of research framework Authors: Adnan Bakri; Ahmad Nur Aizat b Ahmad; Muhamad Arif Mahzan; (UniKL MITEC) Abstract: Total productive maintenance (TPM) is holistic maintenance management approach aimed at improving the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) of the machine or equipment. It integrates the role of maintenance and production department of a company to share responsibility in taking care the production equipment. Its strong emphasis is on inculcating the sense of sharing responsibility and empowering operators to maintain their production equipment. In the right environment, TPM implementation would make significant contribution to company’s profitability particularly in increasing the production efficiency, improving the product quality, lowering operating cost, timely delivery to customers, ensuring the safety of the workplace and enhancing the morale of employees. However, the literature portrays that many of companies are struggling and found themselves either failed right at the start-up or during the process of TPM implementation. In view of the significant impact from TPM methodology, it is clear that there is a need to formulate a set of comprehensive guidance towards the success of its implementation. Therefore, this paper seeks to discuss the critical success factors (CSFs) of TPM and to develop research framework for systematic TPM implementation. The study adopts comprehensive literature reviews from numerous published sources such as journals, books, websites, magazines and unpublished thesis. It focuses on the understanding of the concept of TPM and maintenance management, the concept of CSFs approach, the growing importance of TPM and its significance role in supporting domestic industry development. This paper contends that the company’ business performance will surely improve if the concepts outlined in CSFs of TPM be adopted and adapted. From this brief discussion, the author invites for other ideas as part of continual improvement on the proposed research framework to assess TPM implementation in Malaysian companies. Title: Mixed Convection Boundary Layer Flow of Viscoelastic Nanofluid Past a Horizontal Circular Cylinder with Convective Boundary Condition Authors: Rahimah Mahat; Sharidan Shafie; Abdul Rahman Mohd Kasim; Noraihan Afiqah Rawi; (UniKL MITEC) Abstract: The steady mixed convection boundary layer flow of viscoelastic nanofluid past a horizontal circular cylinder taking into account the thermal convective boundary condition is investigated numerically. The nanofluid model use involve the Tiwari and Das model. The resulting system of nonlinear partial differential equations is solved numerically using an efficient implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Effect of the various parameters, namely, uthe mixed convection parameter, the nanoparticles volume fraction, viscoelastic parameter and the conjugate parameter on the dimensionless velocity, temperature, skin friction, as well as wall temperature have been presented graphically and discussed. It is found that both skin friction and wall temperature decreases for the increase in viscoelastic parameter. On the other hand, increasing conjugate parameter leads to the increase of the temperature and velocity profiles. For fixed nanoparticles volume fraction, as the value of mixed convection parameter increases, the magnitude of both the skin friction coefficient and wall temperature also increases.

Title: Adopting IT Application in lean Healthcare: A case study of Malaysian General Hospital Authors: Noor Widasuria Abu Bakar; Pavan Kumar Jatavalabhulla; Shahrulniza Musa; Abdul Hadi Mohamad; (UniKL MIIT) Abstract: Lean is a quality improvement methodology that can identify and eliminate waste from processes. While methodology is widely implemented and manufacturing and Automotive, it is also applicable in another area such as service industry of healthcare. Institution who concern with health, such as the hospital involve complicated and length business process daily. Consequently, this encourage exhaustive process chain, which is unreliable, cost ineffective and resource wastage. Moreover, the chain may lead to medication error or error in medication delivery. Although the lean methodology is widely used in healthcare, there is limited empirical evidence in resolving such issue, mainly focusing on specimen handling in a real hospital environment. This paper focused on the implemented of a systematic method of lean into a healthcare institution in Malaysia to decrease the time access and to have better inventory control of specimen. The adoption of lean is achieved by implementing an efficient barcode system for specimen handling to pursue better management, which will lead to time reduction and allow the hospital to offer good quality healthcare service. The study confirms that the systematic lean method is significantly improved action and processes. The finding is also applicable to lead to a general patient satisfaction by adding values to the existing process but shorten some additional activities.
